Not every great run is in a great place. We spent one night at a Holiday Inn in Vermont this summer on our way to drop our younger daughter off at summer camp. The hotel was in a shopping center off of a busy highway–not promising running environs–but there was a small gym with a pair of treadmills in it, so my wife and I went for a run there while our kids entertained themselves before dinner. It was hot and smelly, but my wife and I got to run shoulder to shoulder even though we were pushing very different paces. It was a great way to shake off the feeling of sitting in a car all day, made a little room in our bellies for dinner and made an otherwise fairly bleak hotel feel almost pleasant.
